It’s a psychology test, to see if people would notice the color change. Of course, most people don’t. Which is the fun in the video. Once you see it again, knowing what they changed, it’s obvious to you. But chances are you didn’t notice at all before the trick was explained to you.

I halfway expected something screwy, but I never expected that many color changes. I know the main rule of magic is to make the spectator see only what you want them to see, so the zoomed-in angle was my only clue at something odd. If you’ll notice, I can’t find the pattern, but the colors of the table and his shirt switch, which explains somewhat why we wouldn’t notice that change. Her shirt blended in, so I didn’t notice hers as much,so the green one seemed like I just hadn’t noticed it at 1st

Tmccus2000, you are missing the whole point. In fact, you actually got “pulled in” the way you were meant to get pulled in. You were so focussed on the camera and the trick, that you did not realize the colour changes. What was meant to happen did happen and you did not perceive it. The whole thing is about human psychology rather than the card trick, so the fact that you call it “amateur” does not really make much sense.

If you listen closely, you can hear them change the cloth on the table and the curtains behind them. I figured this out before they showed me how they did it later, but I will admit the first time I saw this I was clueless.

I’m guessing you didn’t watch the video all the way through. If you had, you wouldn’t be revealing the secret on how it’s done. In it, they show the entire video all over again, but from a farther back camera angle that can see everything. false. While the woman/Sarah is showing her card at the camera, the camera zooms in on her, leaving the old guy left out, giving him a chance to switch decks. He shows the deck on the side where it has the numbers/suites w/e, then when he spreads it out it turns out Sarah’s card is the only red card. Also, that noise is only the snapping noise the guy makes, but the camera didn’t zoom out on the guy it zoomed in on the card

Sarah’s shirt change is more noticeable than the others (to me, at least) because it’s the only change from a one-color item to a two-toned one, with the collar being different from the rest of the shirt. The other changes, from one-color items to one-color items, don’t resonate because while the colors change, the pattern of the objects remains uniform.

actually the gorilla had nothing to do with this at all. It just happened to be in the “bigger picture” camera shot. This video is all about our brains ability to detect changes whilst we are focused on something else. The gorilla suit you described happened after this experiment, in another words just some props behind the scene.

Their clothes, the tablecloth and the background have absolutely nothing to do with the deck changing colour. The trick is that the guy changed to another deck while the camera zoomed in to Sara. Simply as that. The changing clothes action was a pure deceit to confuse you even more.

@Divigen (bad spelling) actually i to have color “blindness” but actually it is politically known as color “difisiancy” so really its not only gray/black , it means you cant see red and green as well for example i cant see the dif between blue and purple because the only dif is red. and green yellow and yellow look the same to me because the only dif is green. see what i mean?

The changes seemed pretty obvious to me, but maybe that’s because of the various security training I’ve gone through. It does tend to rely on you paying attention to everything rather than just what someone wants you to look at (as people often try and distract you with something more “interesting” than a seemingly normal person walking past you).

OOH! I noticed her shirt turned green. Not what it was before, but that it was different.I think people *notice* all this going on, but dismiss it. (Why would a lady randomly change her shirt when you aren’t looking?)Knowing this was some mind trick, I took note when I thought the shirt wasn’t green before. What they are not told is that other elements are being changed as well, and the true “trick” is that most (but not all) viewers, due to an effect I’ve heard referred to as “inattentional blindness”, miss the other changes. When I saw the second half of the video, I was so focused on watching all the color changes that it took me until yet later to think, “Hey what about the cards themselves?” and realize he exchanges for the other cards right before he pulls off the tablecloth.My attention went from “how did he do the trick” to “how did they change everything” and back to “how did he do the trick.” And each time I could only pay attention to the information relevant to the one I was focused on…

During the clip, a person in a gorilla costume enters the scene, and leaves it again. In most cases, the people who watch the video are too concentrated on the passes, that they won’t notice the gorilla. So he wasn’ insulting.

@opalk9 You weren’t supposed to notice the changes. The “trick” is to focus your attention on the cards so intensely that you block out everything else and (to a point) CAN’T notice the other color changes. Our psychology class in college did a similar study.

@bicycle212 The gorilla’s probably from the trick that involves a team in white with a basketball and a team in black with a another basketball running around the screen passing their respective balls between their teammates. The video calls for you to count all of the passes made by one of the teams, usually the white team. At the end of the video, they tell you how many passes the team made and then asks if you saw the gorilla that walked across the screen while you were counting.

he took another red backed deck while she showed the 3 of diamonds to the camera. after that he put the still blue three of diamonds to the fan wich was faced to the camera so no one knew that the deck was red and on the table he also did the fan face up

I was pretty obvious that he could change the colour of the deck while the camera was very near to the woman. But I haven’t noticed the change of the other things. That shows that we just focus on one particular thing. Well I actually wanted to see a good card trick so I wasn’t really paying attention to the people

The gorilla is probably there because this is a very similar experiment to the “Invisible gorilla” experiment. Youtube it if you are interested.Basically the experiments demonstrates the illusion of attention.
