Well, Ati, you can go for a HIS 4670, the 1 gig edition is only 100$, and the 512 version is about 80, so those are pretty good cards for the price.
Im not smart on Nvidia cards, but if you’re playing crysis, you should go with nvidia.
It also depends on your motherboard.

Found the best card for $140: the HIS Radeon HD 4850 1GB, which costs $135 (from CompUSA). Most Radeon HD 4850′s are at $130, but this one has the benefit of being able to drive bigger monitors without losing frame rates because of more VRAM, it’s faster than the GeForce GTS 250 1GB, and it uses a custom fan with much better cooling because it has a better heat sink and bigger fan, making it a lot more suitable for over-clocking.

Comment from bigdima3
Time: July 2, 2009, 4:10 pm
the error.exe thing has nothing to do with hardware, , its ur operating system XP, Vista ect , ,you might want to scan ur pc for viruses, make sure u have all the drivers installed properly or just reinstall ur OS ,, to play games you will need a multiple core CPU , 2 core is good, 4 core is better , ,a decent GPU, even ATI 4770 will perform fast enough, ,HDD or 2 x HDD in raid 0 so the access times will be faster and tranfer rates too ,,
Comment from xaviercsz9

ahh thnk a lot,hmm is it raid is quntity of hdd divided into several partition,,0 to 5 raid what is the best perfomance of hdd.and please recommend hdd brand for me to chose? sorry to ask you so many quastion i’m not very well about pc hardware
Comment from bigdima3
Time: July 2, 2009, 7:33 pm
there are many raid arrays ,for gaming raid 0 is the best because the half of the data will be saved on one hard drive and another will on other drive, , well u get double perfomance , , Western digiatal are the popular ones and thery are not expensive comparing to ssds which are nowdays way more faster than hdds in access time and read and write rates (some of them), , when raiding HDDS buy the identical ones so ull get the max power out of them ,,

Comment from dchains

No, there is no CPU that ”can’t stand” a video card.If a CPU is less powerful then a video card it will just bottleneck it so you won’t be getting the best performance of the system. But nothing with burn.

pcie 2.o is just a newer version of pcie x16, u can use a 2.0 card in a regular x16 slot, and you can use a x16 card in a 2.0 slot. if you have a 2.0 card and a regular x16 slot, it will work, you just wont get the same speed as if you had a 2.0 slot

8800 GT is great for that. It gets over 60 fps in most source powered games too. That or a 9600 GT. Not quite as good as the 8800, but it’s also great.

What happens if you run an ati card on a motherboard that supports sli? But only one card. Do you have 100% performance or it’s necessary to run an ati card only on an intel chipset motherboard for maximum performance?

I answered that already. If you use a DVI to HDMI adapter, you will only get the Home Theater HD performance for videos. The _full_ Home Theater HD performance requires both HD video and audio; a DVI to HDMI adapter won’t give you HD audio, but it will give you HD video.

Geez it’s not that hard, usually the higher the number the better it is. Really it’s not that hard. Look at them, study them if needing. You might just find that their are in series’s. like for desktops, Nvidia: 200, 9000, and 8000 in descending order based on quality. ATI, even simpler: 4000, 3000, 2000. Grow a brain seriously, and there’s no need to swear that much. And sarcasm does NOT show intelligence at all.

The Radeon HD 4850 will do you very well, if you can get the Sapphire edition of it as it comes with a nice (but very loud) cooler. If at all possible HIS makes a Radeon HD 4890 1GB for around $180 and would give you a much needed power boost but I understand money is tight for everyone right now.

as long as you have a PCI Ex-16 slot it should work. However it would run faster if it was a PCI Ex-16 2.0 slot. Also keep in mind, if you have a small case make sure you have good ventilation.

wat i wanna know is wat can be the consequences of not having a good enough PSU cus i have a EVGA 8800GT superclocked which requires 400Watts minimum thats wat it says on the box.. but i found out my PC’s PSU that it came with only has 250Watts.. till now i dont see any problems the games run WAY better then first on my 6200 an easy 10FPS change but still a little choppy on high-end games but that cus my CPU sucks ass.. so wat could go wrong?

well , that doesn’t explain how a gtx260 with a lower core clock than my hd4870 runs faster.Although I also read higher resolution is more dependant on the video card than the cpu .. in turn better performance.

Work out first what you really want to spend!!!If youre in the UK then go to Overclockers web site!Ati are good, but have many driver problems so Nvidia is the way (gaming).First research the size of the card as the really powerful ones are big so can your case take it.Do you have a cheap power supply or a good one?Generally aim at buying the best GPU (chip) for money!Do your research on the model number not the Ram or anything! The newer the chip the better.

ya that site is cool and all but its data is incomplete and wrong on several cards.bench marks are inconclusive to real world gaming. BTW ppl ive got 2 9800gt’s on a 24″ and I can run crysis on very hi (no AA or Vsink) take a look at my profile for system specs and a crysis vid. ya he’s right about sli and games some games don’t fully support it yet like crysis. WARNING! on overclocking DO NOT GO NUTS! unless you go aftermarket heat sink (copper or water cooling)

does the motherboard a cpu matter? hm….well it all depends, I got a asus nforce 4 motherboard with a single core cpu (btw Nforce4 motherboards are single chip boards) amd athlon 64 socket 939 2.2 gig, and a ATI radeon HD 3870 and the card is heavily bottle necked!! so in a way yes it might matter.btw this board uses ddr (not ddr2). now regarding ATI vs. Nvidia thats your choice. but from experience ide use Nvidia.

AMD/ATI unveiled its next GPU today with over 2.5B transistors – This is presumably the forthcoming ATi 5800 series. It will support resolutions up to 7680×3200 across six displays with one card. The single gpu card has 24% more transistors on it than that current gen board with two gpus (2x956m for 4870×2).I cant wait for them to build a crossfire version. Thats up to 12 displays!

so it doesnt matter if you have a crossfire motherboard but an intel socket in it? i mean, ive seen the xfx 4890 and there’s and AMD written at the bus of the card. im using the asus rampage extreme motherboard(crossfire) and intel q9550. is the xfx 4890 only supports AMD processors? but it’s in crossfire right?.. i am a little bit confused tho. for short, xfx 4890(AMD) supports intel CPU?

Yes, but in WOTLK I would prefer the ATI 4850 or GTX 250 and a Dual Core CPU with atleast 2.6 GHz.Please note, I have assumed that your screen is no larger than 1680 x 1050, any larger and you will need to step up the specs I listed!

you will be able to( if some hasn’t already answered you yet). But….. I would( and am) getting the radeon 4870 and you should to. It’s only $150, beacuse the 5000 series has already came out yet, so if its in your price range, wayyyy better than the card your wanting to get but its up to you~

There is not much difference between the same card from different brands. The main things to look at are: Does the card have a non-reference cooler (the reference or stock coolers are normally loud and barely adequate) and what else comes in the box such as games or connectors/cables.The price can differ greatly as well. The £410 XFX GTX 295 will performthe same as the £355 BFG GTX 295

I’ve done some research and I’m very upset. Oh that search is also called GPU Charts. Screw the budget, nowadays your obligated to spend your money like insanity. CRYsis is now old and Fallout 3 is now the best. The minimum requirements just excluded ATI X800 and lower. There are a few forums “X800 vs X850″; Well now you clearly see the obligation monopoly ie. the choice is made for you. I have X700 per FarCry days and it was excluded for all newer games, its even slow on huge mod downloads

You take on everyone who’s English is not right and you’ve got a life time of work. I’ve only got 500 characters to type here so I have to type shorthand style. According to Fallout 3 you should have purchased the X850 long ago when compared to the X800, there should not have been any question about it. Seems that game producers have a secret agreement with hardware producers.

I just bought a Gigabyte GTX 275 OC to drive my Toshiba 40″ 1080P 120HZ LCD and it plays Crysis and Far Cry 2 at 1920X1080 with 8X AA in FarCry 2 and 4X AA in Crysis. The card is paired with a 3.6GHZ Core 2 Quad and 4GB OCZ HPC Memory and 2X- 500GB HDD’S in Raid-0 so my system is able to keep up with the GTX 275 for max performance, of course results vary from PC 2 PC, but overall its a ridiculously fast card and well worth the money upgrade over my previous EVGA 8800GT SuperClocked OC’D GPU.

a lot of times it will appear as if things are popping out at you yes, but overall you just see depth, for example in COD4 with 3D Vision on, when you line up the front sight with the rear sight, you can see the difference in distance.it’s very hard to explain, it’s one of those things you have to try yourself.let me tell you, I will NEVER go back to playing the games the way I use to EVER.watch?v=tLImrYqLsIA

Comment from marwex89
Time: November 14, 2009, 4:40 pm
Well, they will differ in performance. The one with the highest clock speeds will perform better than the ones with lower speeds. We’re talking about maybe 5-8 FPS increase, depending on the difference. More noticable is maybe the amount of memory. Most 9800GTs have 512MB of mem, some have 1GB. If you plan on playing GTA IV. you want the 1GB version. Else, it probably does not matter.
Comment from raprap17
Time: November 14, 2009, 7:27 pm
do you think 1gb palit 9800 gt green edition ddr3 256bit can handle gta 4 smoothly with c2q 2.66 plus 2gb of ram
Comment from marwex89
Time: November 14, 2009, 7:33 pm
What resolution? Unless you’re planning to run on very high resolution, the video card will be fine. GTA IV will look great. Your CPU and RAM might however cause some slowdown. If you can, I’d consider overclocking the CPU.What kind of ram do you have? DDR3? Anyway, 2 GB is not too much. What operating system? Vista 64-bit?No matter what, you’ll be able to play GTA IV smoothly. You might (in worst case) have to stay on a lower resolution with medium settings, though.

Comment from marwex89

GTA IV depends a lot on the CPU. Even though you have quad core, most games today use no more than two of them, so the frequency really does matter. In other words, if you could overclock your CPU to e.g. 3.0 GHz you would get notably better performance in GTA IV. COMMENT CONTINUES BELOW…
Comment from marwex89

You did not mention your operating system, but if I were you I would look at getting 2GB more RAM when you can afford it. Get 2x2GB or 4x1GB for dual channel. If you can’t afford that now, just leave it. It shouldn’t matter that much.COMMENT CONTINUES BELOW…
Comment from marwex89

Your monitor means that a lower resolution will look fine, so the 9800GT will be enough. If you want it to look even nicer you could get a nvidia GTS 250 – get a 1GB version for GTA IV as I said. That card is a bit more expensive than the 9800GT, but much more powerful. Just if you want to be sure.

Ok, for XP 2gb is enough. No need for more. Overclocking means that you run the processor faster than it was made for. It is dangerous and might cause permanent damage to your CPU (and will void your warranty), so you better not do it unless you know what you are doing. That said, the Q8400 overclocks very well, so if you do some research you should be able to get some nice results.

You should have SP3 for GTA IV. Not for performance, but for stability. Also make sure you download the GTA IV patch and the latest driver for whatever video card you choose. I’d go for the 9800gt or gts250 if I was you. Depending on how much money you have.

@pedrito94gomez I would get the 5870, the performance difference is only a little bit worse than the GTX 295 (and by little I mean only 4-8 fps difference in most games) but it should get better in a month or two when the drivers get better and really help the performance, plus, DX11.

Hey, Im looking for a new videocard for my Inspiron 530(old model..), 2,33 Ghz dual core 2MB ram computer, which at the moment got a GeForce 8300 gs graphic card, running games as my new COD:MW2 and Crysis at 20-25 fps or less(or; extremely laggy..) Now, Im looking at GeForce GTS 250 (1gb), does that look like something that would fit my computer/latest games? And should I even buy a graphic card for an outdated pc like the one I got? Any idea’s or help would be appreciated. Thanks ^^

Comment from XEDarkRunner

In a notebook/netbook there is not possible to switch video card. the reason for that is because the gpu is merged with your motherboard. so if you wan’t a better video card you probably need to buy a new netbook/notebook.

Actually 90FPS in CSS on your 8800 GT is more than good. I think your 8800 GT should last you another year, maybe two. And yes, a new graphics card improves FPS, depending on the engine used to run the game though.

What’s this talk about No SLI on a Intel Chip Set. Many intel Chipset motherboards like X58 + ICH10R Chipset supports 3X SLI Or 3X Cross Fire! Some, like the GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 include a 2X and 3X SLI Bridge!

Comment from fockewulfx
Time: December 30, 2009, 10:15 pm
a GTS 250 is nice, i’d stay on that one. SLI (as well as CrossFire) brings the rist of micro stutter and that REALLY sucks! (even when there is a good framerate on paper) It`s much worse than normal stutter with one card! Sometimes it can feel, as if the game is stuck for about a second! i’d wait for some more DirectX 11 cards to come out and then get a new more powerfull one! Maybe you can than leave the old one in your PC for PhysX. That’s the best way to use 2 cards together.

to find out if you have enough power for your video card, first take the side off your computer, and look at the power supply itself! It should tell you the ampage on the 12 volt rail and the watts. btw.. most standard computers have 300watts!

well, my NVIDIA GeForce 9600GS burned out and died before a year was up… from what i gathered looking online, the entire 9600 series is crap. the cooling system’s faulty, so your card could have tendencies to overheat, so be aware of that… if you’re monitor starts randomly going to sleep, it’s because the card’s overheating.

Comment from digifreakgirl
Time: January 16, 2010, 11:41 pm
@lolomen what you need to look out for is your monitor going to sleep when you’re in the middle of something, or if you can’t get the monitor to wake up again without restarting the computer. if this happens, then it’s definitely a sign your card is overheating. you should change your power saver options to never go to sleep, so you’ll know that if it does, it’s not doing what it should.

@raiku1992 he got a refund or a replacement, didn’t he? 8Oin my case, i didn’t know what was wrong and thought it was my monitor, and the company gave me the runaround before finally getting my monitor back to me with all it’s cables… and said it was “refurbished” only to find out they didn’t do anything with it and it was my graphics card instead… at which point my warranty had expired. =_=

@heyheyhey63 You need to go to the start menu on your computer, type in “run” in the search box, open up Run and type in dxdiag. That will tell you your system information. Also open up your computers case and look for a sticker or anything that tells you much your CPU is becaise you will probably have to update on that depending on the card that you get. Also check what slots you have and what size cards can fit in your case;

Depends on your resolution, but assuming it’s similar to most 17 inch screens, (say 1280 by 1024 pixels), a ATI HD5770 should do the trick
It all depends on your budget. If you can afford it, the ATI HD 5850 is Very nice (top dog is the 5870, or if you can afford 600 bucks, the 5970).BUT, considering it’s only a 17 inch screen I’d go for the 5770
Also, ATIs 5000 series is the only DX11 capable cards on the market today, so take that into consideration
Good luck!
Comment from Eriand89
Time: February 6, 2010, 7:44 pm
Most likely your monitor has a 720p resolution, so a ATI HD5770 should be good
But as always, the more money you spend, the better it gets (usually).

No, you don’t really need a specific card depending on what monitor you have,However, as the resolution on your screen increases, so does the computational power it takes to render out frames for it. So, what I mean is the bigger your screen, the more powerfull cards should you want to have to get stable framerates.

19 inch screen? All you need is a 9800 GT for that. His video kinda makes the 9800 GT sound bad, but trust me, it’s good. Lots of games recommend it.Even at 1920×1200, which is often what 22 to 24 inch monitors are and maximum settings you can do 40 FPS or so in MW2 on a 9800 GT.

Of course, remember that your card has to have the output slots required by your monitor/vice versa. That is, most cards nowadays have DVI and/or VGA (with converterdongles..

GTS 250 has no problem with GTA4 or any of the Call of Duty games. Keep in mind GTA4 wants a good processor too.Crysis is tough, but the GTS 250 can run it on high settings and high resolutions no problem.4870 is probably mostly better, GTS 250 is pretty good though.

ultra high or very high at 1920×1080 or 1920×1200 in Crysis is a complete bitch.High and Very High look pretty similar anyway.Hey it might be playable, I don’t know. The GTX 285, GTX 295, 4870×2, 5850, 5870, and 5970 are the cards that can really smash Crysis. They’re expensive though. 5850 being probably the best deal for performance.

oh, so you’re getting one with a GTX 260 Core 216?I guess just check it out and then decide if you want to upgrade later. It’s just DX10, but that’s fine for a long time.Forgive me if you know this, but it’s just four games so far that have DX11 support, which probably don’t make much of a difference. @garmyhr The video card or on board video does not support minimum shader specs. Most video cards today have 4 and up. Problem you have now, is that dell wires their boards differently then everyone else. Think of it like Mac. You actually have to call Dell to order the appropriate video card for your Pc, pending if you even have a Pci-e slot, won’t surprise me if you don’t.

i dont play much games, maybe the odd football game. I have an ATI X1300pro and want to upgrade my card for my dell e521. The thing is i watch lot of films, mainly 720p,1080P – sometimes. So i will need a better card right? on my windows7.. PC score i have 4.2 score , i feel the graphics area needs improvement since i dont have a great score there. Which card is good for quality? like colors, graphics, HD , interface, etc ?

PCI-E x16?A 5450 with DDR3 is pretty solid. For $55 you can get one on amazon, and it’s silent, uses virtually no power, has every type of HD capability as well as triple monitor support, and it can do games. It has full Win 7 support, DX11, SM 5.0, OpenGL 3.2, OpenCL, very new card with the latest stuff.Designed for video mainly the PC needs to be quiet when you’re watching no?There’s other cards, but they’re louder, more expensive and power hungry. Might not even work on your PC.
Comment from SidneyXda

yeah..PCI-E x16. It can only handle the single slot PCI-Ex16. The more wider and bigger ones dont fit in that space. A 5450? hmm i have to check it out. Yes, i would love it for Video and stuff. i was checking another clip on youtube and the guy was saying the HD2600XT – apparently its , light, not big and covers most the things . What do you reckon of the HD2600XT then?
Comment from Usul573
Time: February 23, 2010, 7:05 pm
That one looks pretty good too.But it’s older technology and doesn’t have the newer features, kinda hard to find and not as supported as the newer cards. I’d check out the 5570 and 5670 which are in the $85-$115 range. They’re new cards with all the coolest stuff, and they’re getting to be seriously powerful for gaming, while still being small and energy efficient and good deals.Older cards are built on older processes.

@100flobby there are no much difference on brands especially on the reference cards or the ones with the stock cooler. they only do branding with the cards that are made by ATI or NVIDIA. the only difference there is the warranty. some brands offer lifetime warranty with their high end video cards.

I will probably get a 23″ monitor and want to play COD MW2 and CRISIS at max settings.Could you let me know what you think?

@BIGBANGKAMEHAMEHA95 I’m sure a single 1 GB 5870 will be good for 1080p.I have a 5850 and can ALMOST max out Crysis and have it be smooth, and just about any other game it has no problem with.
Comment from BIGBANGKAMEHAMEHA95
Time: July 14, 2010, 1:13 pm
@Usul573 Okay, But do you think that games in the future would require something more like the HD 5970 (for max settings), or would it be smarter to just upgrade when the time comes in a year or two?I have some extra cash so might consider getting the 5970.
Comment from Usul573
Time: July 14, 2010, 1:29 pm
@BIGBANGKAMEHAMEHA95 Hmm, well the 5870 is going to be one of the best cards for a while, but absolute maxed settings at 1080p? Can’t say for sure of course. As of now probably only about four or five games that can’t be maxed at 1080p with the 5870.I mean they still make a lot of games for more like 9800GT/GTS 250 performance levels since that’s what lots of people have, and they are way more powerful than what the consoles have. I’m also a tiny bit unsure of dual GPU cards.
Comment from EddieLolz3r
Time: July 14, 2010, 4:02 pm
@BIGBANGKAMEHAMEHA95 its because the 5970 is designed for eyefinity, and its a waste only to use 1 screen

@David279300 Hmm, well AGP or PCI-E?I mean these days the minimum card someone should buy should be a GT 240 512MB GDDR5. $77 and lots of new technology and plenty of graphics power while being small and efficient. Actually I think the FX5500 just has shader model 2.0.

@David279300 Hey you didn’t sound mad or anything.I just think for AGP something like a 7600GT would be better all around and if it’s PCI-E the latest technology is what you want and they make a lot of cards to be for low budget.

@azhar6017 A 5670 512MB would probably be more than enough, it can handle most games on a 23 inch monitor or so at mediumish/highish settings. If you can get a 5750 1GB though it’s a good idea, only about $130 and much more powerful.

@aldobu1990 I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but Tiger’s main target audience is no longer the gaming and enthusiast market. They are now targeting the mainstream, non-tech informed audience. Albert is no longer a part of the team, if you haven’t noticed. He left to pursue a career in photography. They no longer have a ‘face’ for the gaming/enthusiast audience.Unless, of course, you think Bauer has it in him to talk about shit he doesn’t know about.watch?v=VIyVOUQ1zCg

@zaxis01 If you offer to asume yourself with 1920 * 1080 and x8 with all settings cranked up to max, go for HD 5970 and I7 920 with a decent cooler, i’d highly recommend you to overclock your I7 920 to 3.88 4.0 or 4.2 GHZ to avoid microstuttering issue which simply ruins your gaming experience, microstuttering is issue which makes your decent fps drop from 60 to for an example 4 FPS, simply google and read forums about microstuttering. i’m sorry if i’ve given too much information.

I wish this was made much more simpler, and catering too the average joe.The way I see it, is you either go to the nvidia product site, or the amd(ati) product site, basically the higher the number in the name, and the higher the price, the better the video card. Some people prefer nvidia and some people prefer ati, when there isn’t much of a difference in terms of the average joe wanting to play a demanding game. So set your price, compare the basics with commone sense and ull be fine.

@WickeddArtist Really think so?In the right hands they’re very capable and to this day can impress me.Some games should have better frame rates, some run very smooth and look great, some games look almost identical on consoles versus PC but some games can look seriously better. The COD games run at 45-60 FPS on both consoles and look good. It’s not like minimum settings on the PC version. Not that they look EXCELLENT but still.

(mabye very high)

One little detail is the dimension of the card. You want to make sure the video will fit well with your case and motherboard. Some of these video cards are quit big. They will block your essential components like SATA connectors or PCI (if you need to use it for your legacy device). Some of them are too big to fit in your case.

sorry it wouldent matter when or hold long you wait to buy a graphics card. cuz wether you buy one now or in 6 weeks when a upgraded model comes out.. your gonna need one… you cant wait forever and there always gonna drop new ones. plus! even if an upgraded one drops its really not much better till 4 or 5 editions later.

what do people think of this pc: amd phenom ii x6 1055t o/c @ 4.0 ghz hd5770 video card o/c, 4 gb 1600 mhz ddr3 ram, 320 gb 7200 rpm hardrive (won’t be using more than 80 gb, but just to be future proof) ASUS M4A89GTD pro usb3 motherboard, and a 650w powersupply

@fagerbag hmm, im not a pc expert, but you might need a bigger psu for a 6 core. The 5770HD wont require much of a psu. Also, a 6 core and a 5770 is kind of overkill :/

@1337Buylken i am from canada and i dont use my pc for gaming a lot, i use it for regular use, but i occasionally play a few games on my pc, but those game that i play are very demanding, like gta 4 or crysis, and i dont want to spend more than 1000 for a pc and the other parts add up too 800 so i only have 200 to spend on a video card, and i want my pc to be future proof so i thought the hd5770 is good because it has direct x 11
