Think circa 2001. My concerns were that it worked with my old hardware and it was Linux (Ubuntu) friendly. I’m too old to spend hours on a dual monitor setup.
When installing cards, my monitor on until discharge Bois. After that he went to the board for the login screen. Good so far. After re-running auto config xorg and restarting X, one of my instructors on the new map has come to the place. You must then manually add the second monitor, but it’s easy. Buttom line is that the ati driver is up and running.
The other thing to watch is the type of card. The older machines only support a vanilla PCI and AGP sometimes. Be careful not to get a PCI Express if your motherboard does not support it.
I have not tested under Windows, but I guess its pretty plug and play.
The only negative thing I will say is that it did not come with a DVI to VGA converter. Old monitors, as CRT, will only support VGA. Fortunately, I had an extra lying around, but I guess most will not.

I was able to adapt my old Dell Dimension 4400 computer to run two monitors: one for the office and one for the flat screen over my carpet so I can watch streaming movies while I work on. He just enough resolution to run two monitors native resolution that makes them very pleasant to use, whether to watch a movie or productivity. This was one of my great buys computer stuff!

It has worked flawlessly on my Windows XP Media Center Edition. He can play older games such as Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2. Unfortunately, the games graphics are pigs will not work with this graphics card. Otherwise the card works fine
